AbstractThe bombing of the World Trade Center in New York in February of 1993 caused a great deal of damage. The removal of the debris required the consideration of the presence of asbestos, various cleaning agents, refrigerants, and other chemicals present for maintenance of a complex building like this. Furthermore, the explosion and subsequent fire generated toxic materials. This paper describes the monitoring program and precautionary actions for the protection of the workers. and reoccupants of the center. There was no over-exposure of any regulated or toxic material to the workers. The reoccupants found environmental conditions comparable to those prior to the event.
