Effects of aging on the properties of SBS modified asphalt binders containing anti-aging agents
Highlights The SBSMA containing antiaging agents were prepared. Effects of aging on properties of SBSMA containing antiaging agents were studied. The properties of SBSMA containing antiaging agents were improved after aging. Antiaging agents have the good ability restraining the aging rate of SBSMA.
Abstract In recent years, antiaging technology of SBS modified asphalt binders (SBSMA) has been widely used in asphalt pavement engineering due to the aging problem of asphalt binder. In order to realize the concept of green development of asphalt pavement, it is become important to improve the antiaging performance of SBSMA to improve its road performance. In this paper, the properties of SBSMA and SBSMA containing antiaging agents were studied through a series of physical and rheological experiments. The results of physical tests indicated that the ductility of SBSMA is lower than ductility of SBSMA containing antiaging agents. The viscosity and thermal susceptibility of SBSMA and SBSMA containing antiaging agent were then studied. Compared with SBSMA, the results indicated that antiaging agent can decrease viscosity and thermal susceptibility of SBSMA. Moreover, compared with the SBSMA, SBSMA containing antiaging agents did not produce new functional groups, and the antiaging agents have really the good ability restraining the aging rate of asphalt binder by FTIR. Furthermore, the G*/sin δ of asphalt binder containing antiaging agents displayed smaller changes after aging compared base asphalt binder and the asphalt binder containing antiaging agents obtained the good rheological properties at high temperature, which indicated that the antiaging agents has better resistant aging ability of asphalt binder. Thus, the antiaging properties of SBSMA would be enhanced with the addition of antiaging agents.
