Generalized conditional expectation for structural reliability assessment

Abstract A generalization of the conditional expectation method in simulation-based structural reliability assessment is suggested. Example results based on the proposed method were compared to the results based on other structural reliability assessment methods. The generalized method resulted in stabilizing the estimation process of the probability of failure, reducing the dimensionality of the structural reliability assessment problem, and expediting convergence.
