Abstract 1. A study was made of catalytic hydrogenation of naphthenic acids to alcohols under pressure in the presence of copper chromite and optimum conditions found for the preparation of naphthenic alcohols. 2. Naphthenic alcohols and intermediate reaction products, esters of naphthenic alcohols and naphthenic acids, were separated and identified.
