AbstractThe paper presents some preliminary design considerations for wind effects on a very long-span suspension bridge (total span length 4km), of which the construction has just started in Apr. 1986 in Japan, primarily dealing with the studies of comparison of various deck configurations such as truss and box stiffening constructions to combat the flutter instability in relevance to the whole bridge design.
