Note on the smallest particles detected by condensation nucleus counters
Abstract The smallest radius of particles effecting condensation in a Pollak counter operating at the standard 1·21 expansion ratio is deduced from measurements of the diffusional decay inside the counter itself of spontaneously produced aerosol particles. Results suggest that is typically in such aerosols; very close to the most generally quoted size limit of detection for this and similar condensation nucleus counters.
