The elicitation of knowledge from designers
AbstractThis paper discusses elicitation of design knowledge from engineering design experts for the purpose of incorporation in knowledge-based systems. It is suggested that an understanding of the design activity can assist in the selection of suitable elicitation techniques. Design activity is briefly discussed. Following on from this, a number of knowledge elicitation techniques are reviewed including interviewing, questionnaires, attitude scaling, projective tests, repertory grid and observation of behaviour.
