AbstractDespite several powerful measures of protection, the Camargue is actually on the way to a silent and progressive degradation. The first thing to do is to break this silence and stop feeding any longer the idea of the Camargue as a safe wild area.The distinct social groups of users (into which residents and tourists may be divided) tend to exploit separately as much as possible the potentialities of the Camargue. They have never learnt to gather around a common conservational project. So new perspectives might be found in terms of cooperation rather than money, in terms of education and human inter-relations rather than administrative rules and structures.
