The non-linear flexural-torsional behaviour of straight slender elastic beams with arbitrary cross sections
Abstract A potential energy functional for the non-linear flexural-torsional behaviour of straight slender elastic beams with arbitrary cross sections is derived. The result is generally applicable to situations where the strains are small and the Bernoulli hypotheses are valid. It is shown that special theories can be derived from the general expressions in a consistent manner, by neglecting some specific terms.
