Cool tropical buildings: Lessons from old-style designs
AbstractData to estimate human thermal stress levels were taken inside and outside 24 old-style buildings in the Bangkok, Thailand area. Interior coolness was found to be enhanced by: (a) shading from direct-beam solar radiation, (b) prevention of high temperatures on interior wall and ceiling surfaces, and (c) maximizing natural wind velocities inside the building. Any one factor having an undesirable status could negate the effects of many others having a highly desirable status.
