Forest decline in Baden-Württemberg
AbstractForests, a crucial part of the hydrological cycle, are severely threatened by air pollution in Baden-Württemberg. Increasing awareness of the risk has led to the establishment of a monitoring system. The results are presented here and the development of the process is analysed. The correlation between damage to the environment and the more plausible causal chains leading to forest decline are also shown. The extent of the damage and the complexity of its causes have led to an extraordinary intensification in damage research. Current knowledge on the causes of forest decline and possible solutions are reviewed.
