Local buckling of steel faceplates anchored to concrete infill in C-PSW/CF
Abstract Shear anchors and tie bars in concrete-filled composite plate shear walls (C-PSW/CF) develop composite action between steel faceplates and concrete infill and brace the faceplates against buckling. Existing design requirements for tie bars and shear anchors have considered buckling of the empty steel modules during construction and local buckling of steel faceplates (between anchor points) in the composite phase. However, these design requirements do not address the stiffness and strength required for tie bars or shear anchors to brace the steel faceplate against local buckling. This paper presents an analytical study on the local buckling of steel faceplates braced by tie bars or shear anchors and restrained unilaterally by the concrete infill. The results are used to develop additional design recommendations for tie bars and shear anchors, and then compared with existing provisions.
