Tensile strength related to mineralogy and texture of some granitic rocks
Abstract The tensile strengths of a variety of granitic rocks from California were found to be inversely proportional to quartz content. This relationship is attributed to textural differences as suggested by high-quartz rocks composed of equidimensional grains showing little crystal intergrowth, or interlocking, whereas low-quartz rocks consist of interlocking laths and prisms.
