Approximate analysis of high-rise structures comprising coupled walls and shear walls
Abstract An approximate method of analysis is presented for non-twisting high-rise structures consisting of shear walls, cores, and a system of identical coupled walls. For the analysis, the coupled walls are lumped into a single coupled wall and the shear walls and core are lumped into a single shear wall. A differential equation is developed for the equivalent vertically continuous model to show that the combined coupled wall and shear wall can be analyzed as a single coupled wall with modified parameters and subjected to the total loading. The equivalent single coupled wall is analyzed by existing theory to give deflections and forces which are then distributed to give the actions in the original coupled walls and shear walls.
