Self-boring pressuremeter tests in weak rocks
AbstractA new self-boring pressuremeter has been successfully used in excess of two hundred metres below ground level. The instrument was designed primarily to drill and test very stiff/very dense soils and weak rocks. It can operate from NX holes, nominal diameter 76 mm, using conventional rotary rigs. The pressuremeter has a capacity of 20 MPa and can be expanded to 10% cavity strain. It has been used in a variety of very stiff clays, very dense sands, weak rocks and moderately strong arenaceous rocks.
