Pluriactivity in different socio-economic contexts: a test of the push-pull hypothesis in Greek farming
Abstract This paper aims to explain regional differences observed in pluriactivity rates in the Greek fanning sector by identifying factors that influence it within the framework of the push-pull theory. The hypothesis that pluriactivity of farm household members, at the aggregate level, is positively related to off-farm opportunities and negatively related to farming opportunities is tested on crosssectional data from 51 regions, by applying regression analysis, and within two differently structured groups of regions. Results support the hypothesis and indicate the relevant significance of push-pull factors under different socioeconomic contexts.
