Using a forest management allocation and scheduling model for integrated resource planning
Abstract FORest PLANning (FORPLAN), a linear programming model, was adopted by the U.S.D.A. Forest Service as the principal analytical tool for integrated resource planning required to meet the substance of the National Forest Management Act of 1976. The model was developed by K. Norman Johnson from earlier timber harvesting models. This article contains a description of FORPLAN and an evaluation of its role in the planning process.
