Estimating intra-urban population size and distribution from residential construction completion data
Abstract Residential building data could be a realistic base for estimating a city's population when: (a) the city's jurisdictional boundaries are definitely established and known, and complete data on buildings kept by the Town Planning and Health Authorities; (b) the relative number of the types of residential buildings (storeyed or non-storeyed) are known; (c) there is a conceptually objective and universally accepted method of estimating the institutional population of the given city.
