How to analyse spatial distribution of crime? Crime risk indicator in an attempt to design an original method of spatial crime analysis
Abstract Methodology is the cornerstone of all scientific research. It goes without saying that the research method will always be determined by the extent and form of the available data. It is of paramount importance, particularly in analysing complex phenomena with “resounding implications”. One of the obvious phenomena of this type is crime. This paper presents an overview of the existing methods used for spatial phenomena analysis in relation to the existing and available data, and discusses a newly developed solution for crime data analysis in the Polish setting.
Highlights Crime Risk Index is a new method to analyse the crime phenomenon It allows to infer the probability of occurrence of the phenomenon The method makes it possible to determine areas potentially at risk of crime
