Ultimate strength behaviour of submarine pipelines under external pressure and bending
AbstractA finite difference computer program considering shell large deflections, elastoplastic material behaviour and initial geometric imperfections has been implemented to evaluate the collapse loads of pipelines under external pressure and longitudinal bending. Experimental tests on tubes with typical diameter-to-thickness ratio of deepwater offshore pipelines have been carried out. Correlation studies between numerical and experimental results were performed to calibrate the proposed numerical formulation. Actual steel pipelines were analyzed and the results compred with predictions from design codes.
