Wind loads on buildings with vaulted roofs and side walls – A review
AbstractThe recommendations of the Argentinean code of practice CIRSOC 102 concerning wind loads on enclosed buildings with curved roofs are identical to those of ASCE 7, which are based on results published in 1914. Significant differences can thus be expected if this treatment is compared with an updated bibliography. This paper reviews the information available in the open literature, including a number of significant studies written in Portuguese that are not readily accessible, with the CIRSOC 102 treatment then compared with state-of-the-art results. The need to update the code is shown, possible criteria and values are suggested, and research needs are listed.
HighlightsCIRSOC 102 and ASCE 7 codes specify design loads based in a study produced in 1914.Possible criteria and values for updating the codes are suggested, and research needs are listed.Existing information regarding this typology is both limited and small in absolute terms.Available pseudo-static local loads are insufficient to produce a recommendation.Full-scale data must be produced to validate models.
