AbstractA finite element method based on the ALE formulation is applied to simulate vortex-induced vibrations of a circular cylinder. A series of computations over the Reynolds number range between 100 and 140 reveal ‘beat’ and ‘lock-in’. The computed results are compared with reported experimental data.
