Preparation of reinforced geopolymer matrix by centrifugation
Highlights Centrifugation was used in the pretreatment process for geopolymers synthesis. The air bubbles in geopolymer slurry were effectively removed by centrifugation. Five orders of magnitude pores were found in geopolymers. The compressive strength of geopolymer was improved significantly by centrifugation.
Abstract The pretreatment of fresh geopolymer by centrifugation before moulding was verified to be an effective method to improve the compressive strength of geopolymer matrix. The microstructure and properties of geopolymer matrix were investigated with different centrifugal speeds. A reinforced geopolymer matrix with optimizing pore distribution and arrangement structure was developed by 1000 rpm centrifugation, which presented a 70% increase in compressive strength compared with the pristine matrix. In summary, we envisage that this method could provide a creative strategy for the design and fabrication of superior geopolymer matrix for large centrifuge when considering the real application.
