Window management and energy savings
AbstractThe potential energy-saving effects of various window management systems are examined. Two categories of window management are considered: (1) seasonal management and (2) daily management. Seasonal management is preferable if energy savings and costs are comparable with those of daily management schemes. Daily management provides greater potential annual savings in most climates, but requires either conscientious users or automated devices.Heating season window management is examined in detail for the case of New York City, and a graphical technique of displaying relative energy savings for the range of management techniques is developed. The case study is repeated for cooling season window management.
