GIS for urban travel demand analysis: Requirements and alternatives
AbstractThe analytical aspect of GIS has often been used to distinguish it from other spatial data handling systems. Current GIS development, however, is still short of supporting most spatial analysis and modeling applications. In addition to a general review of GIS and spatial analysis functionality, there is a need to examine the practical requirements of integrating specific modeling applications with GIS. This paper examines such requirements for the urban travel demand models. Alternative strategies of integrating these requirements into a GIS are then discussed.
