Farm household adjustments to the European community's set-aside policy. Evidence from Rheinland-Pfalz (Germany)
AbstractLittle is known about the adjustments that farm households make as a result of participation in the European Community's set-aside programme. This issue is explored in the paper through a detailed survey of farm businesses in Rheinland-Pfalz in south-west Germany. Results show that the response to the set-aside programme is extremely varied and depends upon a range of economic and social circumstances as well as upon the assessment of future farm business profitability. Several categories of response and adjustment to the programme are examined.
