Abstract 1. The potential for using PMR spectroscopy to study the composition and structure of petroleum alkylcarbazoles and primarily to establish the distribution of substituents between positions in the heterocyclic system of carbozole hase been demonstrated. 2. A total analysis has been made of spin systems of protons of carbazoles and 1,2,3,4-methylcarbazoles. The magnitudes of δ and n J (n=3−6) and their dependence on the nature of the solvent have been established.
