The present invention concerns a fire protected steel structure with at least one fire protection panel covering the steel structure. The panel includes a perforated metal plate (14) and an inner expanding fire protecting layer (12) with a thickness (t1) on an inside of the perforated metal plate (14) and an outer expanding fire protecting layer (13) with a thickness (t2) on an outside of the perforated metal plate (14). The fire protecting layer extends through the perforated metal plate (14). Releasable mechanical fasteners for removable attachment of the at least one fire protection panel to the steel structure is provided. Furthermore, the invention concerns a panel for fire protection of a steel structure.
