A guard rail system includes a guard rail module with horizontal guard rails supported by spaced apart posts. Hooks allow the module to attach to the top of a stud wall or the like. The posts can either be angled, or the hooks elongated so that the guard rails are held away from the line of the wall thus allowing the top of the wall to be walked upon during construction. Modules can be joined by extension rails to cover a large span. The simple attachment means and all aluminium construction allows the modules to be quickly and easily erected. A single post version and differing means for supporting the guard rails provides flexibility for different building environments and transportation constraints. Figure 5 26 Figure 6
