The invention relates to an access system (10) that allows transfer of goods and personnel between at least one vessel (24) and a shore of a body of water. The access system (10) comprises a first platform (12) extending from the shore to a particular location above the body of water. The access system 10 comprises an access assembly (11) attached to the first platform (12). The access assembly (11) comprises a second platform (14) having a first section (16) and a second section (18). The first section 16 is attached to the first platform (12). The second section (18) comprises a first end (20) pivotally attached to the first section (16), and a second end (22) adapted to allow transfer of goods and personnel between a vessel (24) and the second end (22) of the second platform (14).
