A walkway apparatus (2) adapted to be mounted to a cliff is disclosed. The apparatus comprises support portions (6) adapted to be mounted to the cliff, and tunnel portions (14) 10 formed from meshes of interconnected tensile members placed under tension and connected between pairs of adjacent support portions. A walkway portion is located in the tunnel portions. Tensioning devices (18) connect the meshes to the support portions such that larger axial displacement of 15 tensile members relative to the support portions occurs when tension in the tensile member exceeds a predetermined value.
