Abstract A post for a temporary safety rail system comprising a base for reversible engagement with a floor, a rail holder to hold a rail in reversibly fixed engagement with the post and a plurality of components which are together operable to adjust the height of the post. The post may preferably comprise a first component and a second component wherein the components are slidable about one another to adjust the height. In some embodiments, the second component is concentrically slidable within the first component and in some embodiments, the components are telescopic to adjust the height between 1.9 and 2.5m.
