Self-consolidating geopolymer compositions and methods for making same
A water-free blend as well as a self-consolidating geopolymer composition in the form of a slurry having an initial slump diameter and/or one hour slump diameter greater than 18 inches when measured in accordance to ASTM C1611-14 and having a final setting time of at least 60 minutes measured using ASTM C191-13 as well as having an air content of 0% to 20% by volume. The composition comprises a mixture of water and cementitious reactive powder at ratio w/crp = 0.3-0.55, cement set retarder, alkali metal chemical activator selected from alkali metal salt and/or alkali metal base and a freeze-thaw durability component. The cementitious reactive powder comprises a thermally activated aluminosilicate mineral and optionally an inorganic mineral comprising alkaline earth metal oxide, an aluminate cement, and a calcium sulfate. The thermally activated aluminosilicate mineral is selected from at least one member of the group consisting of fly ash, blast furnace slag, thermally activated clays, shales, metakaolin, zeolites, marl red mud, ground rock, and ground clay bricks. Likewise, a method for making this self-consolidating geopolymer compositions comprising the step of preparing a slurry by mixing water; cementitious reactive powder, cement set retarder, alkali metal chemical activator, freeze-thaw durability component.
