A lock assembly includes a plug with a keyway, primary pins (188) aligned with the keyway, a sidebar (222), secondary pins (204) adjacent the keyway, and at least one supplemental sidebar control element for controlling movement of the sidebar. A key blank has a key blade with a primary top edge (118) to receive primary bittings (120) for controlling the primary pins (188), a rib (132) to receive secondary bittings (136) for controlling the secondary pins, and at least one shuttle pin (138). The shuttle pin (138) engages a multi-level ridge (164) within the keyway to move the shuttle pin (138) from a retracted position to an extended position in which an end of the shuttle pin (138) actuates the supplemental sidebar control element.
