CRUDE STEROL AS AN ADDITIVE IN ASPHALT BINDER
Abstract The current application is directed at compositions and methods that may retard, reduce or otherwise overcome the effects of aging in recycled or reclaimed aged asphalt so as to preserve or retain some or all of the original properties of the virgin binder or virgin asphalt originally used when laying down the aged asphalt. The method comprises the steps of blending ingredients comprising an anti-aging additive and a virgin asphalt binder to provide a virgin asphalt binder blend, wherein the anti-aging additive is used in an amount of 0.5 wt % to 15 wt% based on the weight of the virgin asphalt binder, and wherein the anti-aging additive comprises one or more triterpenoids; and combining the virgin asphalt binder blend with ingredients comprising a recycled asphalt binder.
