Abstract An aspect of the disclosure refers to a modular foundation system for transferring loads from a structure or building into a building ground, comprising: a top plate configured to, in a substantially horizontal orientation, receive the structure or building thereon; a plurality of wall panels configured to be installed at least partially buried into the building ground and forming a grating supporting the top plate, the wall panels extending from the top plate in a direction substantially perpendicular to the top plate; wherein the top plate and the plurality of wall panels comprise structural connection features detachably interconnecting the top plate with at least one of the plurality of wall panels, and at least select ones of the plurality of wall panels with each other. Other aspects of the disclosure refer to a structure comprising a foundation, a kit for creating a foundation system, and a method of creating a foundation for a structure or building.
