A popup drain stopper assembly includes a pivoting body and a pipe fitting having a sidewall access port with an external sealing seat. The pipe fitting supports the pivoting body and forms a seal to prevent liquids that flow down a drain to which the pipe fitting is attached from leaking through the sidewall access port past the pivoting body. An external lever is connected to the pivoting body to provide means by which the pivoting body is pivoted. A stopper with a depending body that carries an in-drain coupling member is provided. The stopper is raised and lowered by the in-drain coupling member during normal operation in accordance with the pivotal positioning of the pivoting body. The in-drain coupling member is removable for maintenance and inspection with the stopper and is detachably secured to the pivoting body to facilitate such removal.
