There is provided a trench box with first and second side panels having inner and outer faces. The inner faces each have first parts of upper and lower attachments. The trench box has two or more support structures, each having first and second side supports separated by a lateral support that maintains the first side support in a fixed position and orientation relative to the second side support. The first and second side supports carry a second part of the upper and lower attachments. The first and second parts of the upper attachment are pivotally engaged, while the first and second parts of the lower attachment are fixedly engaged, each being selectively engaged and disengaged. The trench box has a stand for supporting the support structure in a vertical orientation with the second part of the upper attachment above the second part of the lower attachment.
