ROAD BUMP ELECTRICITY GENERATING SYSTEM
This invention relates to creating road/energy bumps that could be used to produce electricity by harnessing energy derived from the weight and motion from the hundreds of thousands of cars and trucks on our roadways each day. These energy bumps would have an electricity generator mechanism located within the housing of these bumps that would have power provided to these mechanisms as the result of the weight and motion of vehicles passing over the unit. There will be a number of embodiments discussed throughout this application including variations on the way the housing is presented and how it harnesses the energy transferred to the unit along with variations on contemplated electricity generating mechanisms themselves. One of the best embodiments would be to have two ramp metal plates12 facing each other and attached on the underside of the plates by way of a cable20 or other material ensuring that the two plates work in unison when opening and closing. These two metal plates would be open in their neutral position with springs14 attached to the underside of these plates. There would be a trench which runs the width of the roadway or shorter underneath these metal plates allowing a space for the electricity generator mechanism to be housed. The best embodiment would be to have a metal shaft sitting and supported within the trench in a way that allows the shaft to spin freely. This shaft would be engaged and spin when the plate12 is closed due to a vehicle passing over the plate12. The spinning of this shaft would allow the electricity generator mechanism to use this spinning motion to generate electricity. This electricity could be used to feed back into the grid or used in a private sector setting such as a shopping mall in which the electricity could illuminate signs or additional lighting around the space or in another way. The electricity could also be pooled and saved in large permanently placed or movable battery compartments to be used later.
