The invention relates to a shut-off element (10) for use in a hydrant, the shut-off element (10) comprising a main valve body (12) and a sealing surface (16), which main valve body and sealing surface can be brought into mutually sealing contact, the sealing surface (16) being provided with a cut-out (20) in at least some portions of the inner periphery of the sealing surface, which cut-out is introduced into the sealing surface (16) with varying depth.
