A hands-free door opener is provided, including a housing body affixable to a lower end of a face of a door; and a contact component rotationally housed within the housing body, the contact component providing a contact surface for engagement with, and rotation by a foot. Rotation of the contact component by a foot serves to impart lateral movement to the door opener to thereby open the door. A method is further provided for hands free opening of a door. The method includes the steps of engaging with a foot, a contact surface of a door opener affixed to a door and rotating the foot in a first direction to cause rotation of the contact surface of the door opener and rotation of the door about its hinges in a second direction to open said door.
