A pedestal for supporting a partition which includes a base mountable onto a horizontal floor of a dwelling. The base includes an opening. The pedestal also includes a body extending along an axis and having a first end opposite a second end, and a cap coupled to an outer surface of the body proximate the second end. The cap axial location along the axis is adjustable relative to the body. The pedestal also includes a bracket extending above the cap and coupled to the cap for receiving a vertically extending partition for defining a vertical side wall of a compailment. The pedestal further includes a pin attachable to the horizontal floor and for penetrating the base opening. The body axial location relative to the base is adjustable along the axis for positioning close to the floor for improved resistance to bending loads exerted by the partition.
