An aquatic remediation system is provided, for use in cleaning bodies of water and removing plastic waste, the aquatic remediation system comprising: a boom which includes a first end, a second end, a wall defining a bore therebetween and a plurality of apertures in the wall in fluid communication with the bore; an inlet in fluid communication with the bore; at least one releasable closure on the inlet; at least one frame extending a substantial length of the boom, attached to the boom and extending therefrom; at least one weight attached to the frame or integral with the frame; and at least one functionalized fiberglass sheet which is activated with low iron oxide, iron-doped titanium dioxide and which is retained in the frame.
