SMART SOLAR PANEL FOR AUTOMATED SNOW REMOVAL
The overall annual photovoltaic (PV) conversion significantly drops in countries receiving snowfall. A recent research indicates that the drop in conversion in the southern part of Alberta, Canada is about 10%. With the rapid growth of PV installations in Canada and rest of the world, minimization of this loss would have significant impact on harnessing solar energy. This innovation incorporates thin and narrow grid heaters into a standard solar panel for melting accumulated snow on the panel. The heaters will be turned on or off depending on a digitally combined signal obtained from a set of light sensors embedded in the panel. The heaters will be powered by the solar panel.
