The invention discloses a water repellent used for foam concrete and a preparation method thereof, and belongs to the technical field of building material. The water repellent is prepared from following raw materials via emulsification reaction, by weight, 18% of paraffin, 4% of OP-10 emulsifier, 2% of span, 2% of triethanolamine, 8% of aluminum sulfate, and 66% of water. Adding of the water repellent into foam concrete at a mixing amount of 1 to 5% is capable of reducing water absorption of foam concrete, and improving thermal insulation performance and antifreezing performance of foam in using processes.
