The invention discloses a building mortar and a preparation method thereof, the building mortar is composed of cement, stone flour, fly ash, calcium carbonate and water by stirring with ratio of 30%: 50%: 15%: 0.5%. The method comprises the following steps: taking the materials by ratio, placing in a stirrer, and adding a proper amount of water for stirring to a pasty state. The building mortar has good strength, bonding intensity and anti-contraction performance, has good water retention and cohesiveness, and can completely replace the traditional mortar material.
