The invention relates to molten grains consisting essentially of titanium sub-oxides of the formulation Ti n O 2n-1, in which said phases are principally Ti5 O 9 or Ti 6 O 11 or a mixture of these two phases, said phases Ti5 O 9 and/or Ti 6 O 11 representing, in total, more than 60 % of the weight of the grains, said grains further comprising less than 30% by weight of Ti4O7.
