The invention relates to a method for preparing a poly carboxylic acid water reducer stock solution containing 40% solid. The method comprises the following steps: performing graft copolymerization with citric acid after allyl polyoxyethylene ether, maleic anhydride and sodium hypophosphite are sequentially added in water according to the ratio of 40% solid, and dissolving in a water bath at 55 DEG C in the presence of ammonium persulfate; rapidly heating the water bath to 65-75 DEG C after complete dissolution, keeping the constant temperature for 2.0-4.0 hours and then taking out to obtain the poly carboxylic acid water reducer stock solution containing 40% solid. The sodium hypophosphite added during copolymerization according to the method disclosed by the invention allows complete reaction and results in reduction of the PH value; the citric acid added during copolymerization can reduce the adsorption of poly carboxylic acid water reducer by high valence metals; the water reducer obtained according to the method disclosed by the invention has good adaptability to cement, high water reduction rate and small slump gradual loss; and the technology is simple, and the production cost is low.
