The surface mortar for heat insulation of exterior walls comprises a base material and additives, the base material comprises, by weight, 280-320 parts of cement, 620-660 parts of sand and 28-32 parts of heavy calcium powder, and the additives comprise, by weight, 1.5-2.5 parts of high-molecular xanthan gum powder, 1.5-2.5 parts of hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose, 6-25 parts of re-dispersible latex powder and 0.4-0.6 parts of polypropylene short fiber. The addition of the additives comprising the high-molecular xanthan gum powder, hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose, the re-dispersible latex powder and the polypropylene short fiber to traditional cement motor and the heavy calcium powder well solves the technical problems of easy shedding, easy cracking, low pasting strength and poor smoothness and beauty of traditional formulas in construction or under the action of long term self gravity and environment.
