The invention discloses a steel wire rope groove-releasing protection device and a mounting method, belonging to the field of engineering machinery. The protection device comprises a rope baffle and connection plates located at the two sides of the rope baffle, wherein the connection plates are fixed at the two ends of a round shaft provided with a pulley block. The protection device is characterized in that the rope baffle is a framework type baffle cover composed of two connection rods and a plurality of arc-shaped rods fixed between the two connection rods, and is matched with the pulleys in shape; the protection device further comprises assembling plates located on the outer sides of the connection plates; the shapes of the assembling plates are adaptive to the shapes of the arc-shaped rods; the two ends of the assembling plates are connected with stretching-out ends of the connection rods; and the middle parts of the assembling plates are connected with the connection plates fixed on the round shaft. The protection device has the advantages of simple structure, convenience in assembling and the like.
